Sign-On Letter: 60+ Orgs Call on Gov. Murphy & Legislative Leadership to Pass Affordable Housing Legislation

January 24, 2024

Following the introduction of crucial legislation to safeguard and strengthen the Mount Laurel Doctrine, Fair Share Housing Center and over 60 other organizations sent a letter to Governor Murphy and legislative leadership urging swift passage of the bill. The legislation would address New Jersey’s dire shortage of affordable housing by streamlining the development process for municipalities and everyone involved. It codifies the methodology used to determine each municipality’s affordable housing obligations — which avoids prolonged judicial involvement and reduces legal costs. If passed, the legislation will go a long way to address the pervasive housing segregation that has plagued our state for decades.
