Fair Housing, Fair Recovery: The Tenth Anniversary of the Sandy Settlement

In 2012, Superstorm Sandy ravaged the New Jersey coast and devastated dozens of communities and the lives of thousands of residents. In the months following the storm, our disaster recovery system failed the most impacted communities of color, disproportionately allocating resources to white and wealthier homeowners. But Fair Share Housing Center, with our partners at the NAACP New Jersey State Conference and the Latino Action Network, fought for those most harmed and won the largest fair housing settlement in history. The historic settlement agreement redistributed over a half-billion dollars to communities in need, placing critical resources in the hands of low-income renters of color and giving them the opportunity to begin to rebuild their lives. Join us as we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of that historic moment with an evening convening that will bring together the original plaintiffs and government stakeholders in community with storm survivors to reflect on the importance of the settlement, the progress we have made
