FAIR SHARE HOUSING CENTER APPLAUDS THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION’S DISASTER RELIEF PACKAGE FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE IDA AND WILL WORK TO ENSURE RELIEF IS DISTRIBUTED FAIRLYAND EQUITABLY
In response to HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge’s announcement yesterday that New Jersey would be the recipient of $228,346,000 in disaster relief funding, Fair Share Housing Center’s Executive Director, Adam Gordon, issued the follow statement:
“The Biden Administration’s announcement earlier today is critically important to bringing relief to the many New Jerseyans who experienced significant damage and displacement from their homes as a result of Hurricane Ida. As we learned all too well from Hurricane Sandy, the disaster relief process often exacerbates already existing racial and economic inequities. In a state like New Jersey, where our racial and economic disparities are significant, ensuring equitable disaster relief must be a priority. While we are hopeful that the funding announced today will help repair the communities in our state that were most damaged by Hurricane Ida, we are also working to ensure that the relief is distributed fairly and equitably and to seek additional resources needed for a full recovery.”
