FSHC Statement in Response to Jersey City Overlay

Last night, the Jersey City Council passed an Affordable Housing Overlay ordinance. In response to its passage, Adam Gordon, Executive Director of Fair Share Housing Center released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Mayor Fulop, Council President Watterman, and the Jersey City Council on the final passage of the Affordable Housing Overlay ordinance. This innovative addition to Jersey City’s Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance creates more opportunities for smaller mixed-income developments throughout the City. Importantly, it makes sure that even smaller developments include affordable housing for families by requiring at least one three-bedroom affordable home in developments of five homes or more. We look forward to continuing our work with Jersey City to create more affordable homes—helping to ensure that Jersey City remains one of the most racially and economically diverse cities in the country.”
