FAIR SHARE HOUSING CENTER STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT BIDEN’S HOUSING SUPPLY ACTION PLAN

Earlier this week, President Biden released an action plan aimed at boosting the supply of affordable homes to help close the housing gap and ease the burden of housing costs. In response to this announcement, Fair Share Housing Center issued the following statement.

Adam Gordon, Executive Director, Fair Share Housing Center:

“President Biden’s announcement is an important step forward for affordable housing. I commend the Administration for presenting a plan that will help address housing affordability for hundreds of thousands of residents across the country and here in New Jersey.

The solutions presented in the action plan will go a long way towards accelerating the development of affordable housing. We are especially excited to see prioritization of federal infrastructure funds for communities—like many inNew Jersey—that have addressed exclusionary zoning to create more affordable homes.

But these actions alone will not solve the affordability crisis facing residents today. They must be coupled with both Congressional and state actions that support housing production, prioritize direct assistance to individuals and families most in need, and prevent housing discrimination through enforcement and compliance of fair housing laws.”
