FAIR SHARE HOUSING CENTER APPLAUDS GOVERNOR MURPHY’S INVESTMENT IN FORECLOSURE ASSISTANCEANNOUNCED TODAY

Earlier today, Governor Murphy announced a $10 million investment in foreclosure assistance that will allow the NJ Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency to help keep families in their homes as well as develop more affordable housing. In response to his announcement, Fair Share Housing Center’s Executive Director, Adam Gordon, issued the follow statement:

“Fair Share Housing Center applauds Governor Murphy and his Administration for their commitment to addressing housing insecurity and affordability in New Jersey. The COVID-19 pandemic only made clearer the true impact that historic racial and economic discrimination has had on communities of color in our state. New Jersey leads the nation in racial wealth disparities, and we know that individuals and families of color are disproportionately impacted by foreclosure. Governor Murphy’s investment announced today is a great first step to addressing the racial wealth gap, and will go a long way towards keeping families of color in their homes. We thank Governor Murphy for implementing this crucial legislation championed by sponsors Sen. Troy Singleton and Asw. Mila Jasey.

The investment will also allow for the development of more affordable housing, which is especially critical as New Jersey continues to fall short in meeting our residents’ need for affordable homes. We look forward to continuing to work with the Murphy Administration to safeguard affordability for all New Jerseyans, but especially for communities of color that have experienced historic disinvestment.”
