Fair Share Housing Center applauded Governor Mikie Sherrill\u2019s announcement today of a wide-ranging\u00a0Executive Order<\/a>\u00a0to address the housing crisis and help maximize the impact of New Jersey\u2019s\u00a0newly-strengthened affordable housing framework<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor\u2019s Executive Order<\/a> focuses on speeding up the creation of new housing \u2014 particularly near transit and in high-opportunity communities \u2014 while advancing the development of affordable homes on state-owned land and improving access to existing affordable housing opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fair Share Housing Center\u2019s executive director, Adam Gordon, who served on Gov. Sherrill\u2019s transition team and joined her at today’s signing, issued the following statement:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt a time when too many New Jersey residents are struggling to find a home they can afford, Governor Sherrill is showing the kind of bold, urgent leadership this moment demands. These actions will help build on New Jersey\u2019s affordable housing framework by making it faster and more feasible to create the homes that hundreds of communities are now planning for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNew Jersey\u2019s landmark new law strengthening the Mount Laurel Doctrine has already led to more municipalities than ever<\/a> stepping forward with plans to create affordable homes. By making better use of public land and areas with good transit access \u2014 and making it easier to find and apply for homes once they are built \u2014 the Governor\u2019s moves will help ensure those plans translate into real homes for real people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re encouraged by the Governor\u2019s leadership and ready to help turn these commitments into concrete results for New Jersey families.
