Press Statement: Fair Share Housing Center Reaches Tentative Agreement With Cranbury to End Eminent Domain Plan

Statement from Executive Director Adam Gordon:

“Fair Share Housing Center thanks the Township of Cranbury and the Henry family for working toward an agreement that would eliminate the use of the Henry Farm site in its affordable housing plan and any use of eminent domain on the site. The agreement will resolve challenges filed by Fair Share Housing Center and the Henry family opposing the use of eminent domain on the farm for affordable housing.

“We thank the Murphy Administration, including Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Jacquelyn Suárez and Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency Executive Director Melanie Walter, for considering the comments submitted by Cranbury, Fair Share Housing Center, and many others. Their actions will help bring this matter to a successful resolution and to open up more paths to create affordable housing at a time of great need.

“We particularly appreciate the willingness of Mayor Knierim, Deputy Mayor El-Badawi, and all of Cranbury’s elected officials and professionals to work collaboratively to find a better path forward that protects farmland and upholds the Mount Laurel Doctrine’s promise of fair, inclusive communities for all New Jerseyans. We also appreciate the collaboration of the Henry family in supporting a path forward to keep their family farm in operation and finding alternatives to create affordable housing.

“Fair Share Housing Center looks forward to continuing to work with Cranbury and municipalities across the state to advance strong, realistic plans to meet their housing needs.”
